Garden Retail Sales Merchandiser-Part Time/Seasonal

We are looking for team members to merchandise plants, flowers, trees and other plant material in home improvement retail stores in the San Carlos and San Mateo CA area. This is a growth opportunity and a way to put your creativity and willingness to learn to great use.

This is a part-time position normally offering hours up to 20 hours per week. There may be weeks with more or less hours depending on seasonality.

You must be dependable, responsible, self-motivated, willing to learn, and willing to work hard. Some retail/merchandising experience is helpful. The job requires you to work outdoors and lift and move plants (up to 50 pounds) while working in the garden centers. We provide you a phone and paid mileage. You must have a valid driver’s license, access to dependable transportation with insurance, and a good driving record.

Example of Duties and Responsibilities:

• Assist in unloading trucks. Lift, carry, carry while walking, bend, move, twist, push and pull up to 50 pounds regularly when moving plants.
• Assist in unloading plants from racks to display areas. Moving racks requires pushing and pulling of 300 pounds or more on a rolling rack within a garden center and then the job requires lifting, carrying while walking and moving up to 50 pounds to get plants from rack and on shelves.
• Employee is required to reach to move plants up to 50 pounds from a rack and when placing in garden center. Reaching may be required above shoulder, at shoulder, below shoulder from a stooping position or from the ground to move plants into place.
• Drive from store to store to perform merchandising duties through-out the day.
• Assist in watering. This is pulling and dragging a hose with 25+ pounds of pressure.
• Assist in cleaning. This involves bending at waist, twisting at waist, kneeling, stooping.
• Assist in building store resets of display areas. This involves lifting, carrying and moving large objects.
• Be able to work both independently and within a team environment. Must be result oriented.
• Follow all safety training, PPE’s, rules, policies, and participate in Safety Program.
• Insure Plan-o-Gram compliance following provided guidance from Sales Manager and Sales Representatives.
• Work with Sales Manager, Sales Representatives, Team Lead and Garden Center Managers to conduct store walks to ensure displays meet customer requirements.
• Attend and participate in training meetings as directed.
• Be able to use hammers, drills, brooms, pallet jack, and various other tools.
• All work is standing or walking within the garden center. Perhaps 3% sitting while driving or during break only.
• Utilize assigned cell phone to use Paycom for time keeping and to track mileage for reimbursement.
• Use assigned phone app as directed for daily attendance punches.
