In 1982, Jobs for Youth was part of the County of San Mateo Human Services Agency/Peninsula Works with the slogan of “Invest in the Future – Hire a Youth.”
In the early 1990s, the San Mateo County Jobs for Youth program served thousands of youth throughout the San Francisco Bay Area. At the time, the focus was on youth employment and community partnerships.
In 1996, JFY hosted the “Kick’Off” Breakfast at the Radisson Villa Hotel in San Mateo. In 2001, San Mateo County Human Services Agency partnered with Employment Development Department and administered the Jobs for Youth Program.
In 2001, Jobs for Youth evolved from a summer operation into a year-round program in 2002.
The history of Jobs for Youth continues every Thursday leading up to our 40th JFY Al Teglia Scholar Shine Bright Celebration on May 19, 2022! We hope you’ll join us for this special celebration, donate toward equity in higher education scholarships and invite you to share an Al Teglia or Jobs for Youth memory with photos if you have them on our special virtual video booth! Please share with your family, friends, collogues to collectively create a beautiful time capsule for future generations.
