Jobs for Youth 2018 Highlights – 1st Year in Human Resources

As mentioned in our previous throwback Thursday post, JFY moved from Human Services Agency under the leadership of Human Services Agency Director Iliana Rodriguez to Human Resource Department under the leadership of HR Director Donna Vaillancourt. On July 2018, HR Director Donna Vaillancourt retired and Rocio Kiryczun became the new HR Director.

In this new chapter, JFY refreshed the logo, branding and improved the job skills workshops and workbooks to focus on soft skills. We refreshed the website and created more connections in community. JFY provided 108 job skills workshops to over 2389 youth and attended 11 job fairs and community events throughout San Mateo County.

The 2018 Empowering Superheroes of the Future – JFY Scholarship Fundraising Breakfast was held at the Foster City Crowne Plaza. Retiring HR Director Donna Vaillancourt served as the Emcee and SMC Board of Supervisors President Dave Pine served as the honorary JFY Chairperson. Two special Business Recognition Awards were presented to North Peninsula Food Pantry and Dining Center for all their incredible support to the Daly City Community and for hosting the annual JFY Raffle organized by Carolyn Woods and Leslie Lowe.

In 2018, the Mary Paskevich Memorial Award was renamed to the Mary Paskevich / Carolyn Livengood Memorial Award following the death of Carolyn Anne Livengood on October 3, 2017. We continue to honor her legacy in awarding this special award to community members who have made an incredible impact in the lives of San Mateo County youth. Her legacy also lives on in the lives of the scholars who receive JFY Al Teglia Scholarships in loving memory of Carolyn Livengood. In 2018, Ruby Tomas and Julio Escobar received the Mary Paskevich/Carolyn Livengood Memorial Award.
