RTS has a new Virtual Youth Ambassador Program to provide training and leadership to those who wish to make an impact within various intersections and social justice movements. While the training and projects will focus on sexual violence, we know that it is not a stand alone cause. We will also explore how other movements (such as BLM, Trans Rights, Immigration, ICE/Detention Centers, Abortion, etc) intersect.
This virtual program will be done completely via Zoom. Students will be called Youth Ambassadors and Ambassadors will meet every other week towards breaking down harmful gender stereotypes, rape culture, and gender based violence and discrimination by researching Title IX and how media and pornography portrays sex and relationships. This program will go from November to May. Towards the end of the program, Ambassadors will be tasked with creating a campaign addressing the various policies that directly impact gender discrimination.
As an Ambassador you will receive invaluable, firsthand insight of what it’s like to work at a rape crisis center. This experience is perfect for anyone interested in going into the psychology, counseling, social work, education, or criminal justice fields. It also fulfills any volunteer or service hour requirements. You will receive a letter of rec from our Exec. Dir. For those of you who are looking towards college, this experience can prove fruitful both for admissions and for navigating campus-life and it looks great on any college resume.
We invite anyone who is interested to learn more and attend one of our Orientation Meetings, on either Wednesday, November 18th, at 3:30PM. Ambassadors will need to attend one of these meetings because at this meeting we will go over the program thoroughly, as well as hand out the application, contract and program description. To receive the Zoom link to our Orientation, you will need to register. To register for the Wednesday, Nov. 18th date at 3:30 PM, click here.
