The City of Burlingame is accepting applications for a PART-TIME (APPROXIMATELY 9 HOURS PER WEEK), year-round Library Aide at the Easton Branch Library.

The Library Aide performs various routine and repetitive tasks relating to the maintenance of the library collection. Duties include shelving, sorting, filing and shifting of books, periodicals and other library materials. Maintains library stacks and other areas in clean order.  May be asked to assist in a variety of special projects and services as needed.

The current hours for this position are Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday afternoons 2:00-5:00 pm.
In the future, the hours may include Tuesday & Thursday evenings instead of Tuesday & Thursday afternoons. Applicant must be able to work every Saturday afternoon 2:00-5:00 pm.

ABILITY TO:
Communicate and interact effectively and cooperatively with employees and library users of all ages; work under pressure of heavy service demands; be flexible in work scheduling; work as part of a team; remain calm when dealing with difficult situations and difficult people, handling situations with tact and firmness. Ability to stoop, bend and crouch to retrieve materials and books; lift books or other materials weighing up to 40 pounds; sit, stand and walk for long periods of time; push a fully loaded book truck; climb stairs.

SALARY
The salary range for this position is $15.61 – $18.48 per hour.

WORK SCHEDULE:

This position is part-time (approximately 9 hours per week) and year-round.

Benefits

Healthy Workplaces/Healthy Families Act of 2014 Paid Sick Leave Benefit. This benefit accrues at the rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked to a maximum benefit of 24 hours per year. There is no cash value associated with benefit.

Vacation Pay. This benefit is for part-time casual employees who work 30 or more days within a year from the beginning of employment with the City of Burlingame, and accrues at the rate of one hour for every 52 hours worked to a maximum benefit of 16 hours per year.  No employee shall be allowed to have an accumulation of more than two years’ worth of vacation accrual to their credit at any one time.

No other benefits are offered. This position is at will and is not part of the City’s Civil Service System. There is no guarantee of hours and employment may end at any time.
