Homework Central is a community-based, educational nonprofit that provides after school tutoring for students and support to their families. Four days a week, our volunteers and staff support students with homework completion through small group work and enrichment activities. For over two decades the organization has helped San Mateo elementary children become successful students in school. Our goal is to create a community of lifelong learners.

Reports to: Site Coordinator

Employment Type & Compensation: Part-time, Non-Exempt, $16.20/hour. 

Time Commitment: 2021/2022 school year through June 3, 2022. Program hours are M, Tu, Th 2:30-5:30pm; and W 12:30-3:30. Assistants are required to commit to three days a week and must arrive no later than 3:30pm (M, Tu, Th)  and 1:30 (Wed).

Primary Responsibilities

  • Provide homework assistance for 3rd-5th graders
  • Assist with snack time: prepare, serve, and clean up after student snack time
  • Assist students with the use of Chromebooks and other technology onsite
  • Support the Site Coordinator in assigned tasks
  • Attend mandatory staff meetings and professional development sessions


  • Reliable with a positive attitude
  • Communicate clearly with children and adults
  • Act responsibly and respectfully
  • Able to commit to a minimum of three days a week for the duration of the school year
  • Must be enrolled in a high school or college
  • Show proof of COVID-19 vaccination
  • Proof of eligibility to work in the United States
  • Applicants under 18 years old must have a valid work permit from their high school. 
  • Applicants 18 and over must pass a background check and TB clearance.
