Full Job Description

We are hiring for Donor Greeters and Customer Service for our Palo Alto store. Part time openings available. Please specify which position you are interested in when you apply.

Donor Greeter

Major duties:

  • Greets all donors within 10 seconds of arrival
  • Accepts donations from customers, provides receipt and thanks donor
  • Provides excellent customer service
  • Depending on store procedures, sorts and arranges donations in bins to go to various sorting areas of store
  • Loads and unloads company trucks and trailers
  • Tests electrical donations to determine working condition
  • Maintains appearance of donation areas
  • Accurately tracks quantity of donation during shift
  • Properly loads and prepares trucks for pick up by transportation
  • Follows and enforces all company procedures.
  • Performs other duties as requested.

Job specifications:

Proficient in the English language

Education/license required:

None

Experience/knowledge required:

Basic arithmetic (adding/subtracting) required.

Equipment used:

Pushcarts, boxes, barrels, hand trucks, z-racks, clothing/display racks, mattress cart.

Aptitudes/skills/temperament:

  • Ability to coordinate hand-eye-foot movement to safely maneuver/handle equipment and lift/stack donations.
  • Ability to understand English, accept directions and follow procedures.
  • Ability to perform routine work, adapting to change as it relates to work flow.
  • Ability to maintain self-control and work in cooperation with co-workers.
  • Ability to examine items and visually differentiate between them based on quality standards.
  • Ability to meet and maintain established standards: sort 1 cart in 20-30 minutes, sort 7-10 barrels of books in one hour, sort 9-12 barrels of hard sort barrels in one hour.

Job setting:

The job is performed inside and outside a store with exposure to weather, noise from traffic, dust/dirt, other air-borne particles, fumes and odors. The ground around the trailer may be uneven. A trailer stands approximately four feet up from ground and requires climbing a set of steps. Separating household chemicals from regular donations may be needed on occasion.

Customer Service Specialist

Major Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for customer assistance, cash register operation, sales/monetary transactions, opening/closing procedures.
  • Maintains positive customer and employee relations; reporting any problems/complaints immediately to the store manager.
  • Assists with inventory, display, merchandising and placement of stock on sales floor, stock rotation and mark-downs.
  • Assists with picking/straightening up or arranging merchandise and housekeeping tasks (including restrooms) to ensure neat, clean and safe working environment.
  • Becomes familiar with and uses proper handling techniques and equipment to ensure safe handling of merchandise.
  • Becomes familiar with and follow store policies and procedures as well as general company policies.
  • Is aware of possible damage, theft or potential safety hazards, reporting observations immediately to store manager.
  • Follows and enforces all company procedures.
  • Performs other duties as requested.

  • Ability to learn and accurately perform opening/closing procedures, cash register operation and related paperwork quickly and accurately as they pertain to store operations.
  • Ability to coordinate hand-eye-foot movements to safely handle and/or move merchandise to minimize damage, eliminating hazards and accidents/injuries.
  • Ability to move hands and fingers quickly to count money/change and operate cash register.
  • Ability to accept directions, follow procedures and perform both repetitive and varied duties without loss of composure or efficiency.
  • Ability to understand and communicate clearly in English.

Job Setting:

Work is performed in an enclosed storeroom floor. The area is heated and ventilated. Stores have a receiving area where work is performed on a daily basis.

Dust and dirt are controlled by daily cleaning and are insignificant. Working/standing surface is uniform. Noise and vibrations are not significant; however radios and televisions may be turned on.

Physical Demands:

Fast work pace with constant standing and walking.

The job involves light physical work demands requiring lifting 30 lbs maximum with frequent lifting and/or carrying objects weighing up to 10 lbs. Large or heavy items are moved by using appropriate material handling equipment and/or with assistance from co-worker. Safety handling procedures must be followed.

Normal or corrected talking, hearing, and seeing abilities are sufficient to perform required tasks.
