Haolin Zhu is a graduate of Jefferson High School, current student at UC Berkeley, and aspiring Civil Engineer with a focus on building infrastructure in low-income communities. When his family immigrated in elementary-school, they had little English or income. Haolin endured bullying for his language barrier, but used it to fuel his drive to learn and improve. By high school graduation, he was thriving in AP English classes and giving speeches in front of crowds through his participation in a youth substance abuse prevention group.
Haolin’s teachers commend his thoughtfulness in school work and supporting peers, clear commitment to the betterment of the community, and ever-expanding extracurriculars.
For Haolin, an Al Teglia Jobs for Youth Scholarship will support his continuous search for the next opportunity to learn, as well as his dream of mastering construction in order to build a better future for our community.
